Random on a Monday

The first thing I thought when I opened my eyes this morning was holy crap!  My alarm didn’t go off and someone is vacuuming at 7am!  My alarm was set for 6am but apparently never went off.  I woke to the strange sounds of a broken ceramic plate being jostled inside a paper grocery bag.  Someone else was vacuuming.  Apparently there was a yawning/stretching incident this morning involving a collectible plate of Steven’s grandmother’s.

Meet Giselle

Meet Giselle

This is Giselle.  She was one of Steven’s grandmother’s collectible dolls.  She was given to me as a birthday gift from my in-laws.  Isn’t she gorgeous?

The other lovely ladies

These are some of the other lovely ladies from the collection.  You can see Giselle sitting gracefully down at the other end.

Just because

Another picture just because she’s pretty.

If you have children (or even pets), how did you choose their name(s)?

Katy’s first and middle name (Kathryn Marie) came about because we both liked the name Kathryn.  Steven chose the spelling though he denies doing so.  Marie came from a desire to honor our moms.  My mom’s name is Mary Jo and Steven’s mom’s middle name is Marion (not sure that is spelled correctly).  Marie was the middle ground there.  Voila!

Emily’s name (Emily Jane) wasn’t family related at all really.  We both liked Emily and after that was chosen the middle name stumped us for a while.  I spent half of my phenergan soaked pregnancy trying to come up with a short name that went with Emily.  We tossed around Jane for a while but hit some opposition from a couple family members (various reasons).  We ended up choosing it anyway.

How does she do that???

How does she do that???

Lizzy’s name (Elizabeth Rae) is somewhat family related.  Elizabeth is a name we tossed around when pregnant with Katy and Emily.  We both loved the name and decided now we were going to use it.  Rae is a female spelling of Steven’s middle name Ray.  His father’s middle name is Ray as well and we had said that if he had a boy his middle name would be Ray.  While pregnant with Elizabeth we knew this would be my last pregnancy so in lieu of giving a boy Ray for a middle we gave Lizzy Rae.  It’s different and I really like it.

My Monkey Girl

Only afterwards did we find out that somewhere in Steven’s family tree there are members with all those names.  So technically they are family related but not necessarily on purpose.  They’re just classic names.  Nothing trendy or “in”.

Reading Little House

Reading Little House

She’s reading Little House In The Big Woods for school.  And learning very useful vocabulary like headcheese, muskrat and kerosene.  Frances, aren’t you proud of their vocabulary genius??

Napping???

Napping???

After Katy had finished reading HER books for school today, she started reading Emily’s.  She loves to listen to us read Emily and Lizzy’s history/reading.

This makes me happy!

This makes me happy!

We did a “dresser overhaul” in Emily and Lizzy’s room.  This is Lizzy’s dresser all nice and labeled.  Not only does it help her learn to read, it helps her remember where to put the different items of clothing.  Instead of taking her pile of folded laundry up to her room, opening any random drawer and shoving it all in there.  Now, if only I would’ve thought to print them from the computer with a nice font….

What?  I have organizational issues.

The cute little ceramic Nemo is the only fish in the sea right now.  Because I, um, well, I *ahem* killed her goldfish….

Horse massacre

Horse massacre

Apparently during the night, the My Little Ponies stampeded and all the real ponies were trampled and left for dead.  There’s proof!  Look at the smirk on that Little Pony’s face.

The Zoo

The Zoo

All the animals lined up on Katy’s bed.  Let’s see we have a pink shiny pony, a fuzzy terrier type dog, a cocker spaniel, a manatee (hiding behind the cocker spaniel’s ears), and two cats.

Collections

Collections

Katy has a pretty white shelf in her room.  She’s been putting her snowglobes and things on it recently.  Here we see her trophy from Honor Star Ceremony last May, a Sea World snowglobe, an elephant snowglobe Daddy brought her from Thailand this summer, and then some objects that are hard to see from this angle…

monday5th_0006Yes, yes, that’s a better angle.  Now we see the newest snowglobe from Grandma and Grandpa, four lovely mermaids and a suspicious plastic “bucket”…

Oh my!

Oh my!

Um, hmmm.  Is it more disturbing that my daughter has a tub of plastic farting goo or that it is necessary to put “Do not swallow” on the container?  Even the mermaid is disturbed by the sight.

A good representation of Katy’s personality: princess, bookwork, computer/DS fanatic.

Exhibit A

Exhibit A

Proof that I am a holiday slacker.  My tree is still up and will likely be up the rest of the week.  I may attempt to take it down this weekend.  May.

Gloomy Gus

Gloomy Gus

It’s been grey and gloomy and COLD all day.  That sheet of low dark clouds is just hanging around.  Though it isn’t doing anything productive like snowing or anything.

monday5th_0025

The sun is visible though.  Look!  Off in the distance there, that sliver of orange.  Sunshine does still exist!  January/February here are rough on the senses.  I think we ever moved to Greenland or Iceland (they do have bases there) and had to endure the long winter with little to no light, I’d have to get one of those light boxes.  I’m already crazy enough, thanks.

Pippi the Brave

Pippi the Brave

The Pipster went out and braved the cold to go potty.  When it snows out you have to make her go.  She doesn’t like to step on the cold ground.  Prissy little thing.  I can’t say much I suppose.  I’ve never had to go outside in my birthday suit, put my bare naked butt that close to the snow and try to go potty either.

How’s your day been?

  • Evin Marcell Brooks…

For months during my pregnancy I couldn’t get Darion to help me come up with a name…His name (Darion Marcell Brooks) was given to his first son (in Nicaragua)…good thing, I didn’t want my son being referred to as “Junior” or”Jr.”…

…finally with about 3 months to spare, Darion picked up the baby names book, flipped it open, it went right to the E’s and he said Evan…together we decided to spell it with an “i” because we want to be different…and Marcell is Darion’s middle name.

That’s how Evin got his name.

  • Hey…George & I are reading your blog before he heads off to bed…he really seemed to enjoy seeing the girls doing their homeschooling — it looked like fun to read upside down…hmmm…perhaps he will try it at school tomorrow? Nahhh…he’ll get in trouble for putting his feet up on the furnture…but maybe when he gets home…cuz we let Sandie sit on the furniture, sleep on the furniture, and rub her butt into the furniture…so his little feet should be no problem!!! :o ) G’Night….

  • Hey chic,
I wonder where they got the “collecting” from? I seem to recall that you had quite a collection of unicorns and stuffed animals too.
I had a hard time with naming Brendon. I was all alone in although mom and aunt Jean wanted so badly to do it..lol. Leuf, his middle name is of two reasons. First of course being my love for Leif Garrett, second being that I wanted to honor my dad’s parents. I would have loved Griffin. My grandma’s maiden name was Griffin and my grandpa’s middle name was Griffin, but his “father” already had a son with that name, so, LE is for my grandma Leila and the if is for Griffin for both of them. Brendon is for one of my favorite movies (The Crow), actors (Brandon Lee, poem (The Raven) and author (Poe). Together his name means “Raven Beloved” or as I like to call him, my beloved raven….this is what I did for 8 months…..It started to be Steven Perry for Aeorsmith..he’s still mad that I didn’t..oh well.

  • I love the pictures of the girls and their treasures.I am sure glad we are having nice weather, not to rub it on.We have a Chihuahua now ,she is five months old,Uncle Phillip had to have another dog,she can really relate about going outside when it is cold or raining. I really wouldn’t like to have to get that close to the ground when I go potty either.LOL

  • Well I really wish I could tell you my day went well, but it would either a straight out lie or stretching the fake it til you make it line way out of shape. The hospice nurse wrote on Mema’s form that caregiver appeared to be very overwhelmed. I really wish I could get one or two restful, relaxing nights of sleep. A regular aide that was physically able to bathe her would also be nice. As for children’s names…… Justin was supposed to be a girl, Tammy Michelle (ha ha) according to old fashioned ultrasound and heartbeat yada yada. Picked his name from either being Dustin or Justin the week before he was born just in case, and took the male version of Michelle for his middle name. It has a good meaning behind it but my brain can’t pull his up. Jonathan David was another J name meaning friend of God and probably mmore that my brain can’t pull up. Gregory Marshall was because all our friends had used up the rest of the J names at the time and we took Charles middle name and added a meaningful middle name to it. Then you came along and it took years for my brain to correlate that in my family tree every female with the middle name Lee that had girls named them with the same middle name. You were the closest I ever got to having a daughter and God’s unigue sense of humor had your middle name to be just that. I hope your day was much better than mine. I enjoy seeing my sweet lil angels pics. Did you get your card?
Better get myself to bed. I’ve been up since 3 this morning, and I’m sort of exhausted. Talk to you soon, hopefully. Love you all!!!

  • You keep that tree up, Girl :-) …………..my living room looks empty w/o ours, and I wish that I we would’ve left it out for another month or so.

I love the pics. around the house, thank you for sharing……….I sure do miss y’all………as for the boys’ names………
James Edmund Craig V was an obvious pick, but we chose to call him “Jay” because of the MANY Jims in both of our families.

Dean Joseph is a combination of my little brother’s name and my Grandpa’s name.
A lot of folks have accused us of naming them this way so that when we call them we’re saying, “James, Dean”! We actually didn’t plan that—————–Jay was going to be “Jasmine” if he was a girl, and Dean was going to be “Regina” (my grandma’s name) OR “Ella” (my Mom’s name) I’m not sure they’d appreciate me sharing that, though.

Have a blessed week, Curly Q, I’m praying for you, and would appreciate the same (I’m going through some horrible sleep apnea mess)……………..
    Love ya,
    Lynn

  • Wyatt and I were watching football when we picked Peyton’s name. Can you guess?? We had fought for months over names…he said, in the midst of the football game…”Peyton” and we didn’t go any further. Wyatt’s middle name, Brandon, just fit with Peyton. Besides, I wouldn’t let Wyatt name Peyton, Wyatt, so Brandon was as close as he got! :)
