I was exhausted when I fell into bed last night. Three nights in a row of going to sleep after midnight and getting up by 6:30 or 7:00 had kicked my butt. Sleepy doesn’t even begin to cover it. I crawled in bed, snuggled with The Boy and proceeded to follow the nightly routine. Turn onto right side, adjust body pillow betwixt knees and elbows so as to support my old, decrepit body. Face the fan, pull covers up to ears and stick feet out. Pop in my night guard so I don’t grind my teeth into dust. Generally about 30 seconds later I’m asleep. Last night, I could.not.go.to.sleep. It didn’t matter what I did. I tossed and turned and tossed and turned. Slept briefly, woke. Tossed and turned. I think around 3am I finally dozed off. Was planning to get up and have school today. We don’t normally have school on Fridays. We take the day and get ready for our weekend. Try to take care of all the things around the house that we can, so we don’t have to worry about it when Steven’s home. So, um, yeah that didn’t happen. Apparently I got up at 6:45 and turned my alarm off and went back to sleep.
So here I sit in my jammies at 11am. I need to hop in the shower shortly since the girls have tae kwon do at 1pm.
Our plans for the weekend are sedate. Emily’s heading over to a friend’s house to spend the night tonight. We’re going to take Katy and Lizzy to the pet store so Lizzy can pick out new fish. She wants to buy them for herself, three of them. ”So they can have friends.” Saturday is supposed to be either rainy or snowy or a mix of both so we’ll probably hang out around the base. Maybe take a walk at the river if it’s just snowing. Sunday after church (and the meeting we need to attend) we’d like to go to Rock Creek Park and go for a hike. I suppose that will depend on what time the meeting is over.
***Paused for shower, tae kwon do, Katy had a friend over and it’s now 5pm***
Here I sit, not in my jammies. I have on clothes. Comfortable ones but clothes none the less. I’ve been pondering all afternoon what to write. Y’all know that I don’t have a lot to say….well, at least not a lot that is important. So a lot of times I struggle with what to write. I know you guys enjoy it when I write, you’ve told me so. But I know that reading a laundry list of our days gets old. Fast.
Today I decided I’d work on a project. Rather just tell you about my life, I want to show you. A photo safari if you will. It’s late in the afternoon, Steven’s not home yet so we are inside where it’s nice and toasty warm. It’s DANG cold outside…might get snow tonight. WOOT! Anyway, I decided that the best way to start a project is to start where you are.
Where am I, you ask? I’d love to tell you, er, show you. I’m in what is now the office. Our 1400 sq. ft house has four bedrooms and the smallest was Lizzy’s bedroom previously. We decided to change things around a few months ago and now Emily and Lizzy share the larger of the (non-master) bedrooms. The office serves several purposes but the main one is that I have a place to go where it’s quiet and I can think. Oh wait. Not really. That was my dream… The office is set up mainly so that Steven’s computer is no longer downstairs amidst the general chaos. He needs to be able to go somewhere and shut the door for his school work and sometimes his regular work that he brings home. Having the computer in the room off the kitchen wasn’t cutting it. Thusly, the move. Our plan had been to get the office painted when we repainted the girls rooms. Didn’t happen. The office is still pink. Heh. But it’s set up and things are running fairly smoothly.
From where I sit….
First of all, it’s hard to take a self-portrait. Well, I find it difficult.

Oh my
Attempt number one didn’t go so well. And dude, I need to have my eyebrows waxed. But, joy of joys you can see my wrinkles EVER so clearly. Heh.

Oh my #2
Further evidence of eyebrow waxage deprivation. Oh well, I give up on the self-portrait. Directly in front of me you will see…

Itty bitty keyboard
I love my Mac and this itty, bitty keyboard is cute, isn’t it? You can also see my ever present glass of lemonade, the perpetual calendar Shelly gave me last year (and look Connie, it’s current!!), some papers Lizzy gave me, and my lens cap. To the right of the desk you can see the random what not that is still sitting in here waiting for a home. The grey rubbermaid box has a plethora of stuffed animals that we had to weed out of the girls rooms.

Right
Fairly normal stuff here. The calendar again, my printer, a unit study on colonial life for Katy, the usb cord for my camera which normally sits here as well.

Inspiration/Collection
This is on the wall to the right of my desk. I have various cards I’ve made, invitations, color wheel, pricing sheets, order that is hanging up waiting to b picked up for some school pictures I did. Oh, and stamps!! I’d forgotten those were there.

Left
This is the stack on the left side of my computer. My lovely ladybug, a birthday card, a notebook of ideas for photos that I write in when an idea hits, and a cd/dvd of Muay Thai fighting. Steven brought it back from Thailand and I haven’t watched it yet. Shame on me.

Behind
If you were to venture a look behind my computer you would see where I stash stuff. My cup filled with everything from pencils and pens to lip gloss and rubber bands. You can see two lenses for my camera, the head phones for when I’m working. Also a stack of invitations printed on the various papers my printing company offers, a stack of homeschool group info brochures and a giant stack of what looks like organized chaos in the back.

My art
It’s pretty obvious, if one cares to look, that Lizzy loves to draw/color/create things and then give them to people. If I look to the left of my desk on the closet doors, I see this lovely one of a kind masterpiece. Notice the subtle use of color, shading and emotion. Notice the forty eleven thousand Littlest Pet Shop stickers holding it up. My favorite is the skunk blowing bubbles in the bottom left corner.

Steven's Stuff
If I turn all the way around I see Steven’s desk. Isn’t it neat? And uncluttered? Another benefit of his computer being up here is that the girls don’t randomly drop their papers and stuff on his desk. I can see one thing of theirs on his desk though. That tiny pink circle is one of Lizzy’s ponytail holders. I have no idea why it’s there…

Scary wolf face thingy
This is also Steven’s. His unit at Keesler was the Red Wolves and when we PCS’ed from there this wolf statue was a going away gift. It’s rather interesting and weird at the same time. The funny part was the time my dog noticed it for the first time. She started barking madly at it. hehehehehe

Red white and blue
Steven loves the patriotic themed items we’ve collected and has wanted a place for them. This is by the door on the way into the room. I think Steven’s mom gave it to us. I’ve always loved this picture.
This is a Norman Rockwell painting that Steven was given when his Grandma passed away. I love it. I love how they’re looking off into the distance, perhaps imagining their futures.

Wooden Uncle
Last decoration I photographed. This wooden Uncle Sam has been with us for ages. I can’t even remember where or when we got it. I do know that when we moved here to DC his glasses came off in the move and so poor little myopic Sam hangs there, blind as a bat.
Well, that’s the view from where I sit. If I’d opened the window I could show you the back of my neighbors houses. Or the river. Or the never ending stream of airplanes at Reagan National. Or the constant drone of helicopters.
Wonder what I’ll show you tomorrow…

Cool pics. For some reason the wolf’s head thingy is a bit freaky to me, though. And you look beautiful. You’re eyebrows are fine. Well, my wireless keyboard/mouse combo. is acting crazy and the boys are back from their walk w/the dog; SO I’m off to volunteer at the thrift store…………….
Love ya,
Lynn
